A leading Tier 1 Venezuelan mobile operator has selected Squire Technologies and Sunset Technology for its 4G and 5G Voice project. The containerised SBCs from Squire Technologies, deployed by Sunset Technology, are a critical step in the operator’s $500 million multiyear project.
The mobile network operator (MNO) has consolidated a scalable, efficient, and secure network and recently passed 10 million subscribers. Now, it is enhancing its network to handle even more customers and 5G traffic.
Strategic positioning for the future
Recognising how fast technology evolves, the operator is ensuring it is positioned to capitalise on 4G and 5G Voice opportunities. Subsequently, through 2026 and 2027, the operator will carry out a $500 million project, expanding its 4G and 5G services.
The network enhancements will enable the MNO to maintain its position as the leading player in Venezuela’s telecommunications market.
Voice network optimisation requires flexibility, the ability to easily add new customers and integrate the latest cutting-edge technologies. By interconnecting multiple solution providers, operators can leverage economies of scale and scope, offering new services and maximising subscriber uptake. This is critical for MNOs seeking to deliver 4G and 5G Voice services for enterprise and subscribers.
Why were Squire Technologies and Sunset Technology selected for the project?
The project required specialist knowledge and skills, so the Tier 1 operator selected Squire Technologies and Sunset Technology.
Squire Technologies, a leading vendor of innovative core network signalling and VoIP solutions, provided advanced carrier-grade Session Border Controllers (SBCs). Sunset Technology specialises in solutions integration, focusing on innovation, network evolution, and cloud-native architectures. Sunset carried out the deployment, integrating the various solution provider systems.
Containerised SBCs for 4G and 5G Voice
The SBCs, part of Squire’s Vozi platform, are deployed in the operator’s cloud environment as a containerised network function (CNF).
Traditional, legacy SBC deployments hinder interoperability and scaling, facilitate vendor lock-in, and require resource-intensive maintenance.
Comparatively, packaging SBCs in containers enables:
Flexible and fast-to-market deployment on public or private clouds or at the edge
Greater agility in managing real-time sessions across borders.
Enhanced redundancy and high availability due to automatic fail-safes.
More efficient and consistent resource utilisation and allocation.
Improved real-time network monitoring and troubleshooting.
Consequently, these features support the operator’s 5G and B2B Unified Communications service goals, while scaling up and reducing costs.
“We are proud to be working on this project for this leading Venezuelan MNO, interconnecting solution providers to enhance their service offer. Combining Sunset Technology’s deployment expertise with Squire Technologies’ carrier-grade SBC product suite brings together high-level strategic telecommunications consulting with specialised core network signalling engineering.”
