Holograms wowing audiences and Google suggesting it has discovered parallel universes is fun. However, in uncertain times, telecom operators are likely to be more interested in tangible deliverables than expanding into hypothetical markets.

Actual market competition and social, economic and political events are pushing telecoms operators to improve network capabilities. For example, the escalation of cybercrime is pushing telecom operators to improve network security and flexibility.
