Aruba\u2019s leading telecoms company has launched VoLTE for subscribers and international roamers. Their new network components from Squire Technologies are enabling revenue opportunities and a future-ready network.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n

The challenge for the operator in providing VoLTE related to legacy technology that couldn\u2019t support Sigtran traffic. They needed a solution for IP-based traffic that\u2019s forwards and backwards compatible, creates network efficiency, and is easy to scale. <\/p>\n

The solution will open new revenue streams and make future upgrades easier. It will also reduce operating costs, while extending VoLTE to the entire island.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Why Aruba needs VoLTE<\/h4>\n<\/h4>\n

Aruba\u2019s economy relies heavily on tourism, and tourists have certain mobile expectations. Tourist numbers have surged since 2020, and now the country must cope with the impact on the island\u2019s ecology and infrastructure. The environment is being handled through legislation, but the communications infrastructure is a different matter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Deploying a VoLTE network upgrade <\/h4>\n<\/h4>\n

Squire Technologies was brought in after the incumbent vendor\u2019s extortionate upgrade prices was dismissed. Squire Technologies teamed up with a Latin American telecommunications services partner to deliver the necessary flexible, carrier-grade and customisable solutions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Stage 1<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

First, the legacy Signalling Transfer Point (STP) hardware needed replacing with a solution that could handle increasing IP-based Sigtran traffic. Squire Technologies\u2019s signalling specialists delivered a pair of STPs that support SS7 TDM, NGN IP SIGTRAN and IMS \/ LTE \/ 4G, capable of multi-generation network interworking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Stage 2<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

Stage two required a Diameter Signalling Controller setup of two Diameter Routing Agents (DRA) and two Diameter Edge Agents (DEA). Squire Technologies\u2019 SVI-DRA enables smooth, scalable control of service providers\u2019 IMS and LTE core networks. The SVI-DEA from Squire Technologies has enhanced security for authorisation, authentication and subscriber policy.\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Advantages<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

Having two STPs, DRAs and DEAs allows splitting of national and international traffic, simplifying traffic monitoring, routing, and management. It also increases efficiency regarding configuration and future upgrades.<\/p>\n

Swapping out hardware for software virtual machines makes upscaling and upgrades easier, rather than trying to upgrade cumbersome hardware. The result is a network that can adapt quickly to market changes.<\/p>\n

VoLTE is a real boost for Aruba. It\u2019ll improve the experience for tourists and Arubans across the island and enhance call quality for businesses.<\/p>\n
