Ventocom deploys Squire Technologies’ Diameter solutions in its network transformation
Leading Austrian MVNE, and 2025 Austrian Society for Consumer Studies award winner, Ventocom, is transforming its network. The expansion project marks a new phase for Ventocom, offering customers faster and more diverse service options.
Ventocom is an ongoing success story that launched in 2013. The business’s customer-centric approach recognises their consumers’ need for flexibility and affordability. Consequently, they’ve won multiple awards from the Austrian Society for Consumer Studies in Price/Performance, Customer Satisfaction, and Customer Service categories.
Consumer-centric network services
The booming Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) market is being driven by consumer demands. MVNOs need to rapidly adjust to meet consumer needs to maintain and grow their market share.
Ventocom is a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) with four MVNO brands that deliver services tailored to different consumer segments. Launched in 2015, HoT (Hofer Telekom) leads the virtual network operator market in Austria and Slovenia. HoT’s success is due, in part, to addressing the lack of post-paid benefits that prepaid customers experience with other providers.
Ventocom’s other brands are equally successful, providing tailored offers for regional and financial market segments through LIWEST Mobile, a cooperation with a regional fixed-line provider and Raiffeisen Mobile. The latter, Raiffeisen, Austria’s second largest bank, offers packages suited to the needs of its banking clients.
Next-generation MVNOs
Challenging geography makes Austria a proving ground for new mobile network solutions. The country is also an MVNE sector leader and is pushing to deliver gigabit service by 2030.
Like many nations, Austria has experienced considerable MVNO growth. Ventocom is at the forefront of MVNO solutions, utilising cutting-edge technology to create next-generation MVNOs.
Legacy MVNOs run on outdated infrastructure, limiting their ability to expand and deliver new services for consumers. Next-generation MVNOs respond faster to changing market demands and technology-driven needs. Leveraging digital-first business models and flexible network solutions like highly configurable Diameter Routing Agents (DRAs) enables easier adaptation and scaling.
Ventocom’s network transformation
Ventocom approached Squire Technologies with the task of replacing an incumbent DRA/DEA (Diameter Routing Agent / Diameter Edge Agent). The existing Diameter solutions supplied by ZTE hampered their growth.
Subsequently, Squire Technologies’ DRA/DEA solution was deployed to handle charging traffic from over 1.6 million subscribers across their major MVNOs. The solution was integrated into their sophisticated Online Charging Systems (OCS), which covers multiple nodes for various service types, such as Voice, SMS, Data and VoLTE.
The network transformation leverages virtualisation for core network optimisation. Consequently, by moving away from a hardware-centric solution, Ventocom can considerably reduce running costs. Additionally, due to the virtualisation layer, it enables easy scaling, dynamic changes, and faster services for consumers.
‘We were thrilled with the flexibility of Squire Technologies’ DRA/DEA solution, which seamlessly integrated with our MNOs. We expect the solution to last long into the future thanks to its versatility.
‘The team was very responsive to our needs and delivered the project two weeks ahead of schedule. So, we feel positive about this new partnership.’
Ernst Kellner, Head of Solution at Ventocom GmbH
‘The team at Ventocom were great to work with. From the start, they provided all the information we needed to deliver the project efficiently.
‘Ventocom is a prime example of how to approach the MVNO market, and we’re delighted to be part of their ongoing success.’
