AI fraud detection solution gains first place for Squire Technologies intern

AI Fraud Detection solution wins first place

A Technical Analyst Intern at Squire Technologies took first place at a recent Google x NatWest startup hackathon. Alfie Cooper and his team presented their solution to Google executives at Google’s London office.

Alfie’s team, Axiom, took first place with their AI fraud solution, SecureFlow AI, beating 25 other teams. The team won $25,000 in Google Cloud (GCP) Credits to advance their project.

What does SecureFlow AI do?

SecureFlow AI utilises structured invoice extraction, fraud checks, and graph analysis to uncover suspicious patterns that traditional tools often miss. Additionally, the AI platform explains decisions in simple terms and protects itself from prompt injection attacks.

The solution is designed for B2B fraud detection. Last year, UK businesses lost £1.17 billion to fraud, and 159,000 were affected by invoice fraud alone. Fraud goes beyond direct financial costs. Businesses also suffer damage to brand reputation, experience operational disruption, and lose trust in internal controls.

The team hopes to help finance teams and auditors act with increased confidence when they combat fraud. SecureFlow AI will reduce fraud and business costs and strengthen trust in financial management controls.

Google x NatWest Accelerator programme

The competition is part of the NatWest Accelerator programme in partnership with Google to find new innovators. The aim is to build the UK’s startup ecosystem while developing tools to meet consumer needs and business sector interests.

Alfie and his teammates, Shikhar Jaiswal, Hrishikesh Tavar, and Baris Cavusoglu, were thrilled to win. They described the competition as tough, as they developed an AI tool from scratch in just a few days. However, they excelled in the pressure of the situation.

Douglas Bryce

“It’s been such a fantastic experience. It was amazing just presenting SecureFlow AI to executives at Google’s London office. So, I was ecstatic when we went on to win the competition.

“Everyone in the team was outstanding, and we’re all excited to take the project forward. “Interning at Squire Technologies gives me an understanding of how we can apply AI in real-world scenarios. So, I’m grateful for the insights I gained from colleagues at the business.

“Squire Technologies’ Intern programme has been a great boost for my career and has put me on a fast track for global software development. I highly recommend seeking an internship with them.”
